Adam's Prayer
By: Roxi Sliger 12/2002 and 12/2003
"All rightie" Adam said as I stumbled around inside my head
searching for something to say
seeking words to fill the void, finding nothing I try to pray.
I pray my furtive pleas will be heard
And all will be right and good with the world.
I pray for my brother, for his beautiful soul,
for his amazing mind, for his fragile human brain.
God, please guide their scalpels with care
as they cut out the cancer growing there.
Please help the good surgeons find it all
And with the help of the technology you've allowed us
to achieve,Obliterate those hateful cells from Adam's
brilliant head.
Thank you sweet Lord for listening.
December 2003
Listen he did and indeed our prayers were answered as
Adam made it through to bless us with his presence for
yet another year. What a wondrous passing of the days
with every moment treasured, every smile, every word,
every look and every breath savored.
And for those few lucky enough to be at his side,
watching each precious beat of a heart so full of love
and life and the spirit that will never die.
But alas, God in his mysterious ways is the ultimate
one to number our days. So now we shed our tears of
grief for what is lost and what will never be, falling
in a steady stream with our tears of gratitude for the
bounty of Adam we were allowed to have. A soul so
pure, so wise and so strong. A messenger and guide to
lead us along our own troubled paths. A young man
filled with the knowledge of God who never complained
and shouldered his pain with the strength and grace of
Jesus - a true son of God.
With one lift of his brow and a penetrating gaze, Adam
spoke volumes without uttering a word. He didn't need
words to show us the way - he accomplished it all with
the infinite courage he put forth each day.
Although way too short, his time with us was by no
means in vain - he maintained through it all his
unique sense of humor and left us the priceless gift
of laughter vanquishing pain.
Beloved son, brother, cousin, nephew and friend, Adam
is with and a part of each one of us now and forever
more.
